How to Handle Having No Electic Power
Most who live in metropolitan areas or even the suburbs have no idea how what they need to do when their electric power shuts down. It could be for a few hours or even a few days dependent on the cause of the power outages. Some families opt to purchase a gas or battery operated generator to give them a power source. Although most residential generators can only power up a few items, the wise choices to use it for is the hot water heater, refrigerator, and electric range. By doing this you’re refrigerated items will not parish and you can still cook a healthy meal for your family. Any portable device, like radios and flash lights should be battery powered which will save the power of the generator for items that are more in need.
Little children can be bored while waiting for the electric power to come back on. It is helpful to sit down with them and color, play games, read books, or even if the weather is permitting take them outside for some old fashioned fun. As night falls, just bundle up with more blankets than you normally would to stay warm. If you view the electricity going out the same as camping it will be a fun and enduring experience.
