Dog Crates: Keeping You and Your Dog Happy

There are times when it is necessary to confine your pet to a crate for a variety of reasons. You may be training a new puppy or trying to keep your dog off your freshly cleaned kitchen floor. Dog crates allow the owners to restrict their dog in an environment that will become familiar and comforting to the dog. They also allow dogs to become accustomed to being out of the sight of their masters, and teaches them to hold their bladders until a scheduled bathroom break.

As early as 4500 BC in Egypt, canines were being trained and held for companions of mankind. Dog crates, or insulated dog houses did not exist at this time and it was thought that the houses for the most part were made of mud. Today’s crates are very much an improvement, manufactured out of wicker, aluminum or wood. Most of the wooden crates double as fine furniture.

When looking for a dog crate, your first consideration should be size. Make sure that there is enough room for the dog to stand up, turn around and move with ease. Being consistent and positive with the course of training your dog, it will soon understand that the crate will become a cozy private space to call its own.
